Wow. It’s looking like 2020 is going to be an amazing year to explore the Kimberley, thanks to lots of rain over the 2019/2020 Wet Season. The latest dump of rain is courtesy of ex-Tropical Cyclone Esther, which formed in the Gulf of Carpentaria. Over the weekend just gone, Kununurra received a whopping 300mm of rain since the tropical low passed over on Friday.

The droplet waterfall turns into a raging Wet Season wonder

Emma Gorge Resort is currently closed over the Wet Season, so the caretaker staff are keeping very busy managing the resort grounds while rain buckets down upon them. Office manager Sophie Gannon emailed us these photos, which were captured by assistant maintenance manager Allister Penney.

“I’ve never had the privilege of seeing the beautiful Flagstaff Falls flow. Allister is in his element chasing waterfalls and taking these beautiful pictures for us. This only flows after massive rain and unfortunately dries before we welcome most of our guests. Fingers crossed it sticks around for a little longer so everyone can experience it on the Emma Gorge walk.”
